WILLIAM MOON'S BRIGHTON

His Place in the History Of Reading

In 1845 William Moon, a 26 year old teacher of blind children, invented an embossed alphabet for the blind at his home in Brighton. During 1997-98 I worked with the Sussex Community Internet Project to tell the little known story of Moon's alphabet and its current reappraisal by the Royal National Institute for the Blind. The SCIP site which includes sound files and downloadable software of Moon's Type face act as a gateway to myriad pages about a technology pioneer you may never have heard of before.Check it out!
Or Visit My Brighton, the museum's award winning multimedia exhibit featuring excellent Moon Material.
Or Visit The Brighton Extra-Mural Cemetery during The 'Original' Brighton Cemetery Tour because we always bring along a current Moon Magazine produced by the RNIB. The illustration on this page is from Moon's tombstone photographed by Shaun Vickers.
