The Waste Land (1922)
T.S. Eliot's poem resonates with the music of the City of London from
Chaucer and Shakespeare to throbbing taxis. The Surrey side of the
Thames offers panoramic views of the "unreal City" Crossing London
Bridge we visit St. Magnus the Martyr on Lower Thames Street; "flow down
King William Street" to St. Mary Woolnoth to discover Alexander Pope,
Phoenician sailors, Dante, & Ariel while voices of London's poets move
along towards the water dripping fountain near Moorgate.
